Each city team was required to create a virtual city with Sim City software, build a scale model of the city, and write an essay and narrative about their work. All of these elements were presented and defended by students before a panel of judges. As an added challenge, students were tasked to invent a futuristic medical treatment for a target group (eg cancer patients). “Carthago Nova” was a city created by three Wildwood 7th graders. For their futuristic medical treatment, they envisioned a “memristor” that would restore memory for Alzheimer’s patients. Their invention took 4th Place overall and the award for Best Future City Model.
